The Omnibus

Location

An omnibus travelling from Charing Cross to London docks via the Strand and Exeter Street.

Summary

A country boy of 13, with a bunch of garden flowers knotted onto his sea-kit, becomes the twelfth passenger on a London omnibus heading for the docks. The boy reminds the narrator of when he first left home for a school 200 miles distant. Although all eleven passengers judge themselves as failures, the presence of the boy, first setting out on life, gives them renewed hope.
